Looking through the articles on
our homepage, I realized that most of them apply to the matching poker,
in type LIMIT. However, I know pretty well the feeling of being in need
of achieving something more.
In five cards poker you will not
play NoLimit version (exception is PokerStars). For this reason, if you
are interested in something more I recommend you PotLimit. PotLimit is
a real quintessence for 5card draw. This type of poker gives you much
more opportunities to show your poker skills and experience. Below you
can read some of the important rules applying to this type of poker.
Unlike Limit poker, in PotLimit you can distinguish some elements, which determine your strategy.
1.
If there are many players in the game, it is more convenient for you to
match cards to get a wanted combination. Because in Limit the raises
are usually quite high, you can easier get some potodds. This strategy
of play works especially well, when you are occupying the last position.
2.
The opportunity to raise in order to win a pool makes bluffing much
more effective than in the Limit. Bluff becomes a very important
element of the game.
3. The game is much more dynamic. In this type of poker, you can use much often-different tricks, for example check-raised.
Concluding,
in Limit game you have a chance to win, only if you have a strong
combination. In PotLimit, however, the knowledge of other’s strategies
is the most important. Here you try to use every weakness of your
opponent. Good cards can help you, but will not determine your result.
However,
there are some rules in PotLimit, which have to be obeyed like in all
other types of poker. The most important rule gives the information
about creating your own pool. Even before changing, you have to be
sure, that you will get the maximum of what you can get. I have
observed many times the players, who rose too much or their bluffs left
completely no results, so that they have never earned too much.
The
second thing you have to consider is potodds. At the beginning of the
article, I mentioned that in PotLimit you would match more often than
in a Limit version. Nevertheless, it does not mean that you have to
match to get some combination, each time you have new cards. Remember
that to match a strit you have 16, 6% probability and to match to
colour you have 18, 75%. You have to consider the relation between your
investment and your chances: how often our bluff works, is somebody
going to call our cards, and so on.
